Recent Community-Building Efforts
Grand Street Settlement
AMI annually supports our restaurant partners through participation in a cause that they truly value: New York City’s Grand Street Settlement. The city’s yearly “Taste of the Lower East Side” event benefits Grand Street’s youth programs, and features Manhattan’s hottest restaurants sampling their finest dishes. AMI proudly offers annual support for this worthwhile event, supporting the continuing efforts of Grand Street Settlement. The Settlement encourages and nurtures self-determination among families and individuals through support, learning, advocacy, and community building.
Devereux Georgia
In December of 2005, the employees of AMI brightened the holidays for a few of Georgia’s children. Bringing gifts to fulfill the holiday wishes of over 100 residents at Devereux Georgia, AMI employees actively supported the efforts of this non-profit residential treatment network—a network that helps troubled children aged 10-18. Dedicated to bringing at-risk youth more opportunity, Devereux Georgia assists children who are victims of extreme poverty, abuse or neglect.
Once again showing support for the work of Devereaux Georgia, on April 22nd, 2006, AMI joined other volunteers to help build a new playground. The Home Depot & Kaboom Playground Systems donated the materials and the tools, and 10 employees of AdvanceMe with 3 additional friends and family members donated over 6 hours of their weekend to help put everything together. Our involvement included sectional playground assembly, building planter boxes, benches, and picnic tables, cement mixing, flower planting and the hauling and spreading of wood chips. The kids are very appreciative, and the new playground has become their favorite place to be.
Atlanta Community Food Bank
In September of 2005, AMI was a proud sponsor of the “4th Annual Taste of Atlanta” to benefit the Atlanta Community Food Bank (ACFB), held at Lenox Square Mall. This event had over 60 local restaurants offering tastings to more than 14,000 attendees. ACFB also collected more than 1700 pounds of food that it delivered to local community resources. ACFB provides food and other donated products to more than 750 non-profit partner agencies, serving 38 counties across Metro Atlanta and North Georgia.
American Red Cross
In 2005, Hurricane Katrina devastated large sections of the Louisiana coastline. The 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake and resulting tsunami in Southeast Asia was the worst natural disaster in recorded history. Both of these recent catastrophes impacted the people, economy, and the physical landscape of regions all over the world. To offer support, the employees of AMI donated time and financial resources to the recovery and assistance efforts being led by the American Red Cross, specifically aiding those affected by these natural disasters.
Citymeals-on-Wheels
In June of 2005, AMI was a proud sponsor when Citymeals-on-Wheels of New York hosted its “Starry, Starry Night” event at Rockefeller Center. “Starry, Starry Night” featured gourmet masterpieces prepared by 33 top chefs from New York and across the country. The proceeds of this event were used to create and deliver more than 200,000 meals to vulnerable homebound New York City citizens. Citymeals-on-Wheels is a community organization delivering more than two million meals each year, and it funds 120 community-based agencies to bring weekly, holiday, and emergency meals to homebound and physically challenged elderly New Yorkers.
On Monday, June 12, 2006, AMI sponsored Citymeals-on-Wheels as they provided a culinary journey through Italy for their annual chefs’ tribute tasting event. Dubbed appropriately "Tutto Italia," over 1,200 NYC guests enjoyed this celebration of the sights, the smells, and the tastes of Italy hosted in Rockefeller Center. The proceeds of this event were used to create and deliver meals to vulnerable homebound New York City citizens. AMI is proud to offer continuing annual support of this worthwhile event, and to sponsor other charitable events important to our clients and their communities.
